DESCRIPTION:The Ella Baker School of Transformative Organising is hosting a
  meeting on Thursday 21st June 6-8pm at the National Education Union (NEU)
  Hamilton House\, Mabledon Place\, London\, WC1H 9BD\n\nDr. Aziz Choudry w
 ill be discussing his new book\, Reflections on Knowledge\, Learning and S
 ocial Movements\, and helping to facilitate a discussion on the relevance 
 of historical materials in political education. This event fulfills the tr
 adition of the school in helping facilitate inter-movement dialogue in sha
 ping activist education.\n\nWe are grateful for colleagues at the NEU for 
 providing a room for this event\n\nReflections on Knowledge\, Learning and
  Social Movements: History's Schools\n\nEdited by Aziz Choudry\, Salim Val
 ly\n\nHow do educators and activists in today’s struggles for change use h
 istorical materials from earlier periods of organizing for political educa
 tion? How do they create and engage with independent and often informal ar
 chives and debates? How do they ultimately connect this historical knowled
 ge with contemporary struggles?\n\nAziz Choudry is Associate Professor in 
 the Department of Integrated Studies in Education at 9IÖÆ×÷³§Ãâ·Ñ and
  a visiting professor at the Faculty of Education\, University of Johannes
 burg\, where he is affiliated to the Centre for Education Rights and Trans
 formation. He is author or co-author of several books including Learning A
 ctivism: The Intellectual Life of Contemporary Social Movements (Universit
 y of Toronto Press\, 2015)\, and co-editor of Learning from the Ground Up:
  Global Perspectives on Social Movements and Knowledge Production (Palgrav
 e Macmillan\, 2010)\, Just Work? Migrant Workers’ Struggles Today (Pluto P
 ress\, 2015) and Unfree Labour? Struggles of Migrant and Immigrant Workers
  in Canada (2016\, PM Press). Choudry serves on the boards of the Immigran
 t Workers Centre\, Montreal and the Global Justice Ecology Project.\n\nIf
