CBC Radio Interviews Sheryl Smith-Gilman about the Proposed Bill 21 Expansion

µþ¾±±ô±ô 21,ÌýQuébec’s law banning public employees in positions of authority from wearing religious symbols at work, is at risk of being expanded in a way that would extend the restrictions further into areas that may affect early childhood education and daycare settings. CBC's Sean Henry of Daybreak Montreal looks at the potential impacts on staffing and children’s educational environment, including an interview with 9IÖÆ×÷³§Ãâ·Ñ Education's Dr. Sheryl Smith-Gilman, Faculty Lecturer (Department of Integrated Studies in Education) and Associate Director of the Daniel and Monica Gold Centre for Early Childhood Development. Smith-Gilman comments on how Bill 21 negatively impacts children's development, stating that the law is "creating divisions in society rather than unity," describing that our multicultural society is an advantage for educators and young learners to introduce topics of diversity and inclusion into school settings. "We don't want to institutionalize exclusion based on what somebody wears."
