Conversely\, formulations of decision-making and choice behavior often appeal to reinforcement learning and the Bellman optimality principle. On the one hand\, the brain seems t o be in the game of optimizing beliefs about how its sensations are caused \; while\, on the other hand\, our choices and decisions appear to be gove rned by value functions and reward. Are these formulations irreconcilable\ , or is there some underlying information theoretic imperative that render s perceptual inference and decision-making two sides of the same coin?\n\n About the speaker\n\nKarl Friston is a theoretical neuroscientist and auth ority on brain imaging. He in-vented statistical para-metric mapping (SPM) \, voxel-based morphometry (VBM) and dynamic causal modelling (DCM). These contributions were motivated by schizophrenia research and theoretical st udies of value-learning\, formulated as the dysconnection hypothesis of sc hizophrenia. Mathematical contributions include variational Laplacian proc edures and generalized filtering for hierarchical Bayesian model inversion . Friston currently works on models of functional integration in the human brain and the principles that underlie neuronal interactions. His main co ntribution to theoretical neurobiology is a free-energy principle for acti on and perception (active inference). In 2000 he was President of the inte rnational Organization of Human Brain Mapping. In 2003 he was awarded the Minerva Golden Brain Award and was elected a Fellow of the Roy-al Society in 2006. He became of Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology in 2012\, rec eived the Weldon Memorial prize and Medal in 2013 for contributions to mat hematical biology and was elected as a member of EMBO (excellence in the l ife sciences) in 2014 and the Academia Europaea in (2015). He was the 2016 recipient of the Charles Branch Award for unparalleled breakthroughs in B rain Research and the Glass Brain Award\, a lifetime achievement award in the field of human brain mapping. He holds Honorary Doctorates from the Un iversity of Zurich and Radboud University.\n\n\nAbout the series\n\nThe Pr ecision Convergence series is launched to catalyze unique synergy between\ , on the one hand\, novel partnerships across sciences\, sectors and juris dictions around targeted domains of real-world solutions\, and on the othe r hand\, a next generation convergence of AI with advanced research comput ing and other data and digital architectures such as PSC鈥檚 Bridges-2\, and supporting data sharing frameworks such as HuBMAP\, informing in a real t ime as possible the design\, deployment and monitoring of solutions for ad aptive real-world behavior and context.\n\nThe Precision Convergence Webin ar Series is co-hosted by The 9I制作厂免费 Centre for the Convergence of Health and Economics (MCCHE) at 9I制作厂免费 and The Pittsburgh Supercomputi ng Center\, a joint computational research center between Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh.\n\n聽\n DTSTART:20220504T150000Z DTEND:20220504T170000Z SUMMARY:MCCHE Precision Convergence Webinar Series with Dr. Karl Friston URL:/desautels/channels/event/mcche-precision-converge nce-webinar-series-dr-karl-friston-338700 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
