 School\nAbstract:\nResearch on innovation is increasingly focusing on user
 s and\ncompany external actors as a source of innovation. Recent work in\n
 this field is dealing with the effects that distributed sources of\ninnova
 tion have for the new product development and strategies of\nincumbent fir
 ms and the emergence of new firms.\nIn my talk I first want to give a shor
 t overview of the\ndevelopment of research on user innovation. Then\, I wi
 ll provide\nthree examples of current research projects: One\, in more det
 ail\,\nis dealing with firm hosted online user communities. I look at the
 \nchallenges of working with such communities and whether firms can\nuse s
 imple predictors to anticipate promising user designs and/or\nindividuals 
 out of a vast number of contributions. A second\nresearch project is deali
 ng with entrepreneurship emerging from\nfirm hosted user communities and h
 ow incumbent firms (on the\nexample of LEGO\, the toy manufacturer) make u
 se of that phenomenon.\nThe third research project is dealing with the cha
 nge of business\nmodels when large companies start dealing with external u
 ser\ninnovators (analyzing the cases of IBM\, Coloplast and LEGO).\nWith m
 y talk I hope to motivate a discussion whether and how\nresearch on user i
 nnovation can connect to other fields of research\nsuch as strategy and or
 ganization.\nLight lunch will be served at noon.\nThis event is open to De
