The Faculty of Dental Medicine and Oral Health Sciences is happy to announce the appointment of Dr. Faleh Tamimi as Associate Dean, Research and Graduate Education effective November 1, 2025. As Associate Dean he will support the Faculty's research mission in maintaining its excellence in innovation and graduate training. "Dr. Tamimi's commitment to advancing oral health and dental sciences research and strengthening our dental graduate programs will be instrumental in shaping the future of our faculty" says Dean Elham Emami.

Homecoming 2025 highlights: alumni and faculty members reconnect and learn

The Faculty of Dental Medicine and Oral Health Sciences welcomed alumni back to campus to celebrate 9I��’s 2025 Homecoming! On October 24, Drs. Didem Dagdeviren and Nathalie Morin gave a tour of the Undergraduate Teaching Clinic to alumni including the DDS Class of 2000. For some it was a chance to revisit the place where they greeted their first patients, while for others it was the first time they saw our current clinical facilities since the move from the Strathcona Dentistry and Anatomy building in 2014.

Professor Belinda Nicolau recently convened two events at the Faculty: a two-day workshop focusing on antimicrobial stewardship in the Canadian context on October 1-2, followed by an international symposium to discuss antimicrobial resistance (AMR) on October 10.

New injectable gel shows promise as voice loss treatment

9I�� researchers have engineered a new hydrogel that shows early promise as a treatment for people with vocal cord injuries.

Voice loss is often permanent when scarring forms on the vocal cords. Current injectable treatments break down quickly, which can force patients to get repeated procedures that can further damage the delicate tissue.

2025 White Coat Ceremony

The Faculty of Dental Medicine and Oral Health Sciences held its annual White Coat Ceremony on September 17, 2025 at Redpath Hall. It is both a celebration and a rite of passage - it welcomes third year dental students into the professional community and emphasizes the moral and ethical responsibilities that come with wearing the white coat.

This year’s event featured keynote speaker Dr. Stéphanie Morneau, dentiste-consultante/coordinatrice au sous-ministériat à la prévention et à la santé publique for Quebec's Ministry of Health and Social Services.
