However\, they are of ten portrayed through narrow narratives and negative stereotypes character ized by lower expectations of success. These portrayals that can\, in turn \, generate perceptions that belonging in their racial/ethnic community is not aligned with reaching their future aspirations (i.e. ethnic/ideal ali gnment). In longitudinal\, field and experimental studies\, my research fo und that BIPOC students who perceive little alignment between who they asp ire to be and their ethnic identity tend to disengage academically. Then\, integrating identity-based motivation and strength-based approaches\, I w ill introduce a task that elicits reflections on how Black and Latinx comm unities view their own resilience - and examine its impact in randomized c ontrolled trials. Findings will be discussed in connection with systemic b arriers\, strengths-based approaches\, and programs to reduce disparities. \n\nJoin Zoom Meeting\n https://mcgill.zoom.us/j/87360420470 \n\nFor more i nformation on CRCF's research seminars\, please click here.\n DTSTART:20210217T170000Z DTEND:20210217T180000Z SUMMARY:Research Seminar with Régine Débrosse - Roots and Dreams: Who do yo ung people of color aspire to be\, and how do they perceive that their asp irations align with their racial/ethnic experiences?
