 rapidly dissolving\, how and where do we locate ourselves as\nconsumers of
  visual and digital culture? How does art play a role\nin the constant int
 egration of our private and public lives? What\nare the consequences of th
 e ever-expanding technology in how our\nworld increasingly views itself?\n
 MUTEK is an annual international festival dedicated to the\ndissemination 
 and development of digital creativity in sound\,\nmusic\, and audio-visual
  art. MUTEK's programming intends to create\na sonic space that can suppor
 t innovation in new electronic music\nand digital art. Each year\, the fes
 tival's programming\nincludes a public component\, with a range of activit
 ies happening\nout of doors\, usually in or near the Quartier des Spectacl
 es. As a\nsite of contention within the arts community\, the Quartier des
 \nSpectacles has created a polarity in Montreal's cultural offerings.\nBy 
 focusing on MUTEK's engagement with the Quartier des Spectacles\n(the fest
 ival\, while embracing their geographical location\, still\naims to be cri
 tical of the role QdeS plays in the Montreal arts\nscene)\, we will explor
 e the veritable connections between art and\nthe public domain\, and how t
 hese connections can go right or\nwrong.\nThis session is co-presented by
