T his marked the\nbeginning of a decades’ long effort on the part of the\nin ternational community to promote breastfeeding world wide as a\nmeans to r educe infant mortality to and to improve maternal health.\nOther internati onal documents also speak to the importance of\ndeveloping national polici es that support and encourage\nbreastfeeding. In this presentation\, Profe ssor\nKedrowski will discuss the human rights applications of\nbreastfeedi ng policy\, and discuss how implementing and enforcing\nthe Code enables c ountries to protect the human rights of women and\nchildren especially.\nB iography:\nDr. Karen Kedrowski has been a member of the\nDepartment of Pol itical Science at Winthrop University since 1994\,\nand Chair since 2001. She received her Ph.D. in Political Science\nfrom the Carl Albert Congress ional Studies Center at the University\nof Oklahoma in 1992\, and her BA i n Political Science\, French and\nHistory from the University of Minnesota in 1986. She conducts\nresearch primarily in the fields of congressional communication and\npublic policy. Her interest in health policy specifical ly stems\nfrom her two years as a Health Policy Analyst for Families USA i n\nWashington\, DC. Dr. Kedrowski advises Political Science students\nwho wish to earn Secondary Education Certification. Dr. Kedrowski\nis also the faculty advisor for the College Democrats and she was\nthe driving force in re-establishing Winthrop University's chapter\nof Pi Gamma Mu\, the int ernational Social Science Honors Society\, in\n2005.
