 at the event. Recognized\ninternationally for his important contributions 
 to molecular and\ncellular biology\, his research has led to better unders
 tanding of\nthe basic biological processes going on in both normal and\nca
 ncerous cells\, and now plays a major role in the creation of new\ncancer 
 treatments.\nPrior to Dr. Sonenberg鈥檚 lecture\, Dr. Alicia Soderberg\, of
 \nPrinceton University鈥檚 Department of Astrophysical Sciences\, will\npres
 ent the MNI鈥檚 annual Dorothy J. Killam Lecture. Dr. Soderberg鈥檚\nresearch 
 focuses on the properties of the local and large-scale\nenvironments aroun
 d exploding and/or erupting stars\, with the\nobjective of better understa
 nding the progenitors of\nsupernovae.\nAlso speaking at the event is 2004 
 Gairdner Award laureate Dr.\nUlrich Hartl\, Director of the Max-Planck Ins
 titute for Biochemistry\nin Martinsreid\, Germany. Dr. Hartl is a pioneer 
 in the field of\nprotein-mediated protein folding.\nThe Gairdner Internati
 onal Awards are highly prestigious prizes\ngiven to Canadian and internati
 onal scientists by the Gairdner\nFoundation. Since it was established in 1
 957\, the Foundation has\nrecognized the work of 288 scientists\, of whom
