Yet\, whether included in the novel itself or\nset apart from it – in essays\, p refaces\, letters\, reviews\, and\ninterviews – novelists’ commentary acco mpanies the development of\nthe novel from its inception and informs what can be called its\n“thinking.” This colloquium examines novelists’ thought s on\nnovel-writing that occur outside of the novels themselves.
