Professors are often asked by students to write reference letters for funding opportunities. Reference letters are critical to a fellowship or scholarship application, yet they are probably the most overlooked part of the application process. Often many of the applicants being considered for a competitive scholarship program are first class, and reference letters are influential in distinguishing an individual from a pack of outstanding applicants by highlighting unique strengths.
