Broadcast — Cutting Edge Lectures in Science - Dissecting the components of animal behaviour as a window into the human mind

Wednesday, January 12, 2011 14:00to15:00

The Cutting Edge lectures are organized to foster communication between scientists in different disciplines as well as between scientists and the public.

Recently, the use of experimental animals has been extended to study more complex aspects of cognition, such as planning and organization and decision-making. While the specific behaviours of different species diverge from humans in obvious ways, their brains have the same basic circuitry. This lecture argues that animal models presently represent our most effective means for understanding the basic neural elements of human cognition.
