Under most circumstances\, translational control is exerted at the initiation s tep in which the eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4E (eIF4E) inter acts with the mRNA 5’cap structure to facilitate the recruitment of riboso mes and promote translation. Importantly\, eIF4E preferentially stimulates the translation of a subset of mRNAs. The activity of eIF4E is regulated chiefly by two major signalling pathways: PI3K/Akt/mTOR and Ras/MAPK/Mnk. mTOR directly phosphorylates the 4E-BPs (eIF4E-binding proteins)\, which a re inhibitors of eIF4E\, to relieve translational suppression\, while Mnk phosphorylates eIF4E to stimulate translation. Aberrations in these pathwa ys result in dysregulated eIF4E activity\, which engenders tumorigenesis a nd neurological disorders such as Fragile-X syndrome and autism.\n DTSTART:20180131T163000Z DTEND:20180131T173000Z LOCATION:Room 2/36\, Strathcona Anatomy and Dentistry Building\, CA\, QC\, Montreal\, H3A 0C7\, 3640 rue University SUMMARY:Seminar - Nahum Sonenberg - “Translational Control of Cancer and Fr agile -X via eIF4' URL:/anatomy/channels/event/seminar-nahum-sonenberg-tr anslational-control-cancer-and-fragile-x-eif4-283860 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
