  Against Postracialism\, we welcome Dr. Philip Howard\, professor in the D
 epartment of Integrated Studies in Education at 9I制作厂免费 and Cami
 lle Turner\, multidisciplinary artist\, to review the project\, the exhibi
 tion and their results. The occasion will also be highlighted by the prese
 ntation of Camille Turner鈥檚聽Afronautic Research Lab.\n\nLed by聽Dr. Philip 
 Howard in collaboration with artist/curator聽Camille Turner in 2017\,聽The聽A
 rts Against Postracialism: Strengthening Resistance Against Contemporary C
 anadian Blackface聽is a SSHRC-funded knowledge mobilization initiative that
  challenged blackface and postracialism by supporting efforts to challenge
  them on several Canadian University campuses. This initiative built on Ho
 ward鈥檚 earlier research that investigated instances of blackface as they o
 ccur in the contemporary moment in Canada\, and which argues that this pro
 blematic phenomenon is rooted in Canadian settler-colonial relations in th
 eir anti-black iterations.\n\nThe聽Afronautic Research Lab聽uses performance
  and social practice art to bring participants into contact with archival 
 and documentary evidence revealing the roots of anti-Blackness in and beyo
 nd Canada. The Afronauts are inspired by the stories of the Dogon people o
 f Mali. These space travellers聽left earth 10\,000 years ago and have retur
 ned to their home planet to save it. They invite citizen researchers into 
 their Afronautic Research Lab\, a dark reading room where primary archival
  materials such as 18th century聽Canadian newspapers containing ads posted 
 by Canadian slave owners can be contemplated using flash lights and magnif
 ying glasses. An audio loop provides a sonic guide to the social history i
 n which this evidence emerges. The lab enables a reflection on how the pas
 t has shaped the present and point to the future.\n\nPhilip S. S. Howard聽i
 s Assistant Professor in the Department of Integrated Studies in Education
  at 9I制作厂免费.聽 He works in the areas of critical race studies\, a
 nti-colonial studies\, and Black Canadian Studies/anti-Blackness in educat
 ion.聽 His broad interests are in the social relations\, pedagogical proces
 ses\, and epistemological frames that mediate the ways we come to know our
 selves\, create community\, and exercise agency in/against formal\, non-fo
 rmal and informal educational spaces.聽 His current research projects inves
 tigate the contemporary Canadian blackface as a postracialist phenomenon\,
  and Black people鈥檚 agency in educational contexts in Toronto\, Halifax\, 
 and Montreal.\n\nCamille Turner聽is an explorer of race\, space\, home and 
 belonging. Born in Jamaica and currently based in Toronto\, her work combi
 nes Afrofuturism and historical research. Her interventions\, installation
 s and public engagements have been presented throughout Canada and interna
 tionally. Camille graduated from Ontario College of Art and Design and Yor
 k University鈥檚 Masters in Environmental Studies program where she is curre
 ntly a PhD candidate.\n\nThe event is divided in three parts:\n\n\n	The Afr
